Applied Fluvial
Geomorphology
Crosby Brook Phase 1
& 2 Geomorphic Assessments (2007-2008)
During 2007 and 2008 FEA was contracted by the
Windham County Natural Resources Conservation District to
carry out Phase 1 and 2 geomorphic assessments for a small, urbanizing
watershed in Brattleboro, Vermont. Recently collected biotic samples in
the watershed indicate that the habitat is impaired by sedimentation
and temperature impacts. Data on the physical stability and habitat
conditions was collected to understand the sediment dynamics and aid in
the identification of projects to restore the biotic integrity of the
brook. Links to posted reports are
available here.
Chittenden County Impaired
Watersheds (2007-2008)
During 2007 FEA was contracted by the Vermont River
Management Program (RMP) to carry out Phase 2 geomorphic assessments
within five watersheds in the Burlington
area. In addition,
FEA tested the river corridor planning methods developed by
RMP
within the Potash, Allen and Indian Brook watersheds. Links
to posted reports are available here.
Mad River Headwaters
& Corridor Planning (2007-2008)
FEA was contracted by
the Friends of the
Mad
River
to carry out Phase 2 geomorphic assessments in the headwaters of the Mad
River watershed in Warren. This effort was intended
to build on
the understanding
of the watershed’s fluvial geomorphic processes since the flood of
1998. In addition, FEA and consulting geomorphologist Lisa Godfrey
completed a corridor plan for the Mad River in Waitsfield and Warren.

Town of
Colchester Watersheds (2007)
The
Chittenden County
Regional Planning Commission and the
Town of Colchester identified two
small watersheds draining to Malletts Bay for geomorphic assessment in
2007. FEA was contracted to carry out the Phase 1 assessments of the
Smith Creek and Pond Brook watersheds and
make recommendations for future monitoring. The data will
form
the basis for future Fluvial Erosion Hazard (FEH) planning in
Colchester.

report.
Town of
Richmond Tributaries (2007)
The Chittenden County
Regional Planning Commission and the
Town of Richmond identified three
small tributaries draining to the Winooski
River for gemorphic assessment in
2007. FEA was
contracted to carry out the Phase 1 assessments of the tributaries and
make
recommendations for future monitoring. The data will form the basis for
future FEH planning in Richmond.

Sucker Brook Assessment,
Williston, VT (2007)
The Vermont River
Management Program (RMP)
and the Town of Williston have worked towards restoration of channel
stability in the Sucker Brook Watershed at the site of a large channel
avulsion. As part of it's contract with RMP, FEA completed
a summary of the watershed geomorphic conditions, including
the
area above and below the avulsion, as well as the entire main stem
channel.

Alder Brook
Assessment, Essex, VT (2006)
In 2006 FEA was
contracted by the Essex
Waterways Association to carry out a Phase 1 & 2 Stream
Geomorphic
Assessment for the Alder Brook watershed in Essex, Vermont. Increasing
urban development in the watershed in recent years has led to concerns
about the biotic integrity in the lower watershed. The assessment
helped identify areas of increased sediment loading and channel
instability due to urban stormwater runoff.
